As we find ourselves weeks away from another FL StormSeason we are providing as much information to ourclients regarding expectations and preparation aspossible. We work through storm claims each year withour school / child care facility clients and have seenrepeatedly what works and what does not.
See below a few “pre storm best practices” that we haveseen make a meaningful difference for our clients as faras holding up through a major storm.
-Prepare Your Facility:Shutters or impact glass willprotect the weak points of yourbuilding(s).Wealwaysrecommend that loose playground equipment, furnitureetc. is either brought inside or strongly secured.
-Sandbag Doors / Opening:Sandbagging doors canmake a significant difference in a rising water scenario.Some flood policies will even reimburse for this expense.
-Review Your Policies:Knowing your coverages and wheneach deductible is applicable before you arenavigating aclaim can significantly simplify the process.Evaluatingyour potential outof pocket deductible exposureeachyear is also an important part of the budget process.

-Engage Contractors Early:Demand for contractors willalways skyrocket following a catastrophic storm. Westrongly encourage all of our clients toline up contractorsprior tothe “post storm rush”. This helps avoid extendedwait times as well as increasedpricing from contractorsas demand surges.
